Headpieces and Veils

Your gown style and the formality of your wedding should dictate the style of your bridal headpiece. There are several headpiece styles to choose from with or without veils (tiaras, hats, caps, headbands, bows, wreaths, fresh or silk flowers) but it is generally best to choose a style that is in proportion to your dress and has similar styling. For example, if your gown is decorated with pearls, you may want to get headpiece with pearls.

Use the formality of your wedding and the decoration on the back of your gown to provide guidelines for length. Many brides combine a blusher or shoulder length veil with a longer one for both formal and semi-formal weddings. If your gown does not have a train or has detailing at the waist that you want to show off, you may want to use an elbow-length veil. A longer veil is the most popular for formal and semi-formal weddings. If your gown has a long train, the veil should extend one foot or more onto the train of the dress.

A detachable veil is a great idea when using a longer veil for the wedding ceremony. This enables you to use a shorter veil or remove the veil completely from the headpiece for the reception.

Shoes and stockings

You will be on your feet a significant amount so it is important that your shoes are comfortable. You may want to wear them around the house before your wedding day to break them in, but be careful not to scuff them. If you decide to use shoes/stockings with designs it is important that they compliment your wedding gown. There are wide varieties of styles, fabrics, and decorations so you should be able to find a pair of shoes and stockings that closely match the details of your gown.
