Caterers
Many reception sites run their own kitchens and may not allow you to use caterers. If you decide to use a catering service, you will want to make sure that your reception site has adequate facilities both for storage and preparation.
Whether you use your reception site’s caterer or use an outside service, there are some questions that you want to make sure that you ask.
- Do you have the necessary health permits?
- What are the menu options? Is there an extra charge for menu modifications?
- Can they accommodate guests with dietary restrictions?
- Do they have a bar service? If so, what are your options?
- What is the cost per person? Does it include tax and gratuity?
- Do they provide tables, chairs, linens, china, tableware, servers, decorations, bartenders, cake cutter, clean up, master of ceremonies? Do these services cost extra?
- What color linens are available?
- Do they also make wedding cakes?
- When is a final head count needed? What if there are unexpected guests?
- How many servers will there be? How long will they work? Is there an overtime charge?
- Who is charge of overseeing the staff?
- What is the cancellation policy?
- When is payment due?
You will want to sample their food and possibly attend a function that they are catering to see how they handle it. Make sure to get an itemized quote in writing to avoid misunderstandings.
Something to consider
If you are planning your wedding on a small budget you may want to consider providing the meal or refreshments yourself with the help of friends and family.
